"Write for Rights" is an Amnesty International campaign that makes a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals whose rights have been unjustly violated. The objective of this animation was to encourage a broader audience to participate in the global letter-writing campaign.
"You can rewrite someone's destiny." That is the powerful core message behind Amnesty International's global campaign, Write for Rights. The premise is simple yet transformative: by writing a letter of support, ordinary people around the world can help free individuals who have been unjustly imprisoned for standing up for their basic human rights.
To inspire a wider public audience to join this worldwide movement, I created an emotional, narrative-driven animated short. The video tells the story of a political prisoner regaining freedom thanks to a flood of letters sent from all over the world, ending with a clear, heartfelt call to action inviting viewers to write a letter themselves.
The Creative Process & Workflow
To make the emotional core of the campaign resonate instantly with viewers, I structured the storytelling and design process step-by-step:
1️⃣ Style Exploration & Moodboarding: I started by exploring visual moods to find the right emotional tone, landing on a heartfelt, expressive vector style that builds empathy and resonates with a global audience.
2️⃣ Storyboard & Narrative Pacing: I created a detailed frame-by-frame storyboard to map out the narrative arc – visually illustrating how individual letters accumulate into a powerful force of change.
3️⃣ Style Frames & Character Illustration: Next, I designed key style frames and bespoke character illustrations, using dramatic visual contrast – transitioning from isolation and confinement to hope and freedom.
4️⃣ Animation, Sound Design & Call-to-Action: With the visuals locked in, I brought the scenes to life in After Effects, syncing the motion with expressive sound design and building up to a clear, powerful call to action.
Why This Approach Works for Clients
Narrative-driven illustration combined with strong calls to action is the most effective format for cause-driven organizations and global campaigns:
🟣 Empathy-Driven Engagement: Telling a personal, human story moves audiences far more effectively than listing statistics, creating a genuine emotional connection with the cause.
🟣 Higher Conversion on CTAs: When a call to action is naturally woven into the climax of a story, viewers feel inspired and ready to take immediate real-world action.
🟣 Universal Visual Language: Expressive vector illustration overcomes language barriers, making complex human rights issues universally understandable across global channels.
What The Client Says
"Working with Eva was very professional and pleasant. I appreciate her enthusiasm and openness to the project and brand limitations. She is very willing and flexible. Besides the animation itself, I really value her organizational skills."
